All Data in View.

Whether climb values, information about wind direction and strength or the current attitude: the LARUS Vario Display shows you what is important.

Information is only good if you can process it. With the new LARUS Vario Display, the numerical values calculated by the LARUS sensor unit are processed graphically in such a way that they support us pilots in every second of gliding.

The philosophy: Full 57 mm diameter of information!

Space is often limited in an instrument panel. What could be more obvious than installing a round display in a round instrument panel cut-out in order to present information in an easy-to-read manner? In contrast to a square display in a round cut-out, there is significantly more active display area available.

The development team also focussed on good readability. For example, different colours are used to distinguish between the short-term and long-term arrows for vario and wind. Of course, an external loudspeaker can also be connected via a jack so that climb and descent values can be provided acoustically.

The two rotary knobs arranged on one axis are used to access the clearly organised menus and to change settings.

This information can be displayed:

  • Vario needle for current and averaged climb
  • Numerical value of the climb
  • Centring aid (selection e.g. between dot and spider web view)
  • Indicator for MacCready
  • Symbol for speed to fly / vario mode
  • Wind arrows for the current and averaged wind
  • Numerical value for wind and change
  • Battery charge status

The Vario Display also makes it easier to calibrate the installation position of the LARUS sensor box

Modern Interfaces

A glance at the back of the LARUS Vario Display housing reveals that there are many interfaces available:

  • CAN for connecting the LARUS Sensor Box via standard patch cable
  • RS232
  • 9-pin D-Sub socket, e.g. for connecting a switch for various / speed to fly change
  • Audio jack for connecting an external speaker
  • Micro SD card, especially for updates

These interfaces make it possible to implement additional functions in the future through further firmware updates. For example, landing gear warning and flap sensor are planned.

Flexible Installation

Thanks to the classic 57 mm round instrument dimensions, there is space for this electronic instrument in nearly every panel.

  • Fastened with three M3 screws
  • The display can be mounted in the orientations 0° / 90° / 180° / 270°; a plus point in terms of ergonomics (positioning of the rotary knob) and distance to neighbouring instruments, as the housing of the LARUS Vario Display is not symmetrical
  • Aluminium as the housing material for minimal dimensions and low weight

Firmware Updates

V0.3.7.22 Juni 2025:

Each time the Vario Display boots up, the name of the installed firmware version is briefly displayed.
